Water Department Superintendent
The City of Dayton, Tennessee is accepting applications for the full time position of Superintendent of the Water Department.
This position involves treatment and production of potable water for the City of Dayton.
It requires the ability to perform tasks without supervision and the ability to work with the public.
This position is responsible for the day to day operations of the water plant, tanks, wells, the distribution system, water hydrants, and water meters and assures the operation of the water systems comply with local, state and federal water quality regulations and occupational health and safety regulations.
Duties include working on capital improvement projects related to water treatment and expansion of water services; creating and maintaining a fiscally sound budget; supervision and assignment of duties to subordinates including reviews and evaluations of performance; representing water treatment department to the City Manager, City Council and outside groups;’ occasional respond to citizen/customer inquiries and complaints; overseeing purchases and upkeep of departmental vehicles and equipment to include maintaining and evaluating operational records; and any other duties that may be assigned by the City Manager.
Applicants must be able to supervise, review and interpret plans, drawings and specifications on equipment and structures allowing for troubleshooting and resolving operational problems in accordance with accepted industry practices and departmental policies.
Minimum requirements: ability to operate and troubleshoot pant equipment including computer controls, telemetry systems, microprocessors, alarm signals, flow control devices, pumps, valves and chemical feed equipment.
Must have knowledge of chemical analysis and laboratory testing required for water treatment.
Associates degree preferred or equivalent experience plus three years’ experience in water system maintenance and operation of a water treatment facility; supervisory experience preferred.
Must have a Grade II Water Distribution Operator and Grade III Water Treatment Operator certifications by the State of Tennessee within the first year of employment.
Must possess and maintain a valid Tennessee driver’s license.
Must pass a work related physical and drug test.
The work may be physically demanding, may require lifting heavy objects and may require working in inclement weather.
Must have the ability to prepare and present accurate reports to the City Council and other City Boards.
Successful applicants will possess the proven ability to maintain effective working relationships with the public, City officials, and other employees.
Job will require attending meetings after normal business hours.
Salary is dependent upon qualifications and benefits package is offered.
